On the last week of school we raised our 5th green flag for Biodiversity! The children, staff, parents and invited guests all gathered in the front green for this special occasion. Ms Fallon, our Green School coordinator, has worked so hard these past two years promoting the importance of biodiversity in our school. She has always maintained that her job was made so much easier by being wonderfully supported by a brilliant green schools committee.
We were very honoured to have our SNA, Susan, raise this flag. For many many years, Susan has worked tirelessly to teach our pupils all about the wonder and beauty of nature, her expertise has been invaluable to us all. It was all the more fitting that Susan was given this honour as, sadly, Susan is retiring this year after working for over 20 years in Queen of Angels. The students and staff will miss her greatly but we hope she will come back and continue in some way to work with the children whom she loved dearly.
Our wonderful caretaker, Peter and gardener, David have also given huge time and effort to make our school grounds look fantastic and thus they too have been instrumental in helping us achieve this green flag. Lettie McCarthy spoke at the flag-raising and she too acknowledged and praised the stunning grounds of Queen of Angels. Our chairperson, Finbarr O'Driscoll was delighted to see how the grounds of Queen of Angels still continue to thrive from his days as principal over 15 years ago!
It was a beautiful way to end the school year and we hope these initiatives will instill a constant love and respect in our students of the importance and necessity of caring for our wonderful world!
