Ms Downes’ First Class was busy making bird feeders! The children discussed that during this time of year the birds need extra food as the cold weather means that birds have to use lots of energy to stay warm. The children also knew that during the season of winter, there is not much fruit or berries for the birds to eat.
As we are a Green School, we decided to make bird feeders to help the birds who visit our school grounds. Firstly, we put bird seeds onto a plate. Then, Teacher spread peanut butter on the outside of toilet paper rolls using a butter knife. Next, we wore gloves and rolled the toilet paper rolls in the bird seed. We then put string through the toilet paper rolls. Finally, we visited our ‘Outdoor Classroom’ and chose tree branches to hang our bird feeders on.
We can’t wait to check to see how much the birds ate!
