On the sunny morning of June 14th, our school community gathered in the junior yard to celebrate Queen of Angels’ annual ‘Intercultural Day’. This is a very important day in our school calendar. We value the many different cultures and nationalities that make up our school community and love to showcase them altogether on this special occasion.
Early that morning, the children emerged from their classrooms, holding banners representing nearly 50 different countries. The children, parents and staff dressed in a variety of colours and traditional dress and jerseys. We all proudly stood behind the banner of our native countries, cheering, waving flags and playing instruments. We began the day with a parade around our beautiful school grounds. We then took a big group photograph.
Next, parents and guardians were invited into our hall for a coffee morning and a chance to sample a wide variety of delicious foods kindly prepared by our parents. The parents had the chance to chat and admire the international themed projects and artwork on display.
Throughout the day, every class visited the hall to taste the delicious foods on offer that were kindly prepared by our parents. The children then ate outside in the sunshine.
We rounded off the day with an intercultural themed assembly with a selection of wonderful class and individual performances attended by the children, teachers, SNAs and parents.
A big thank you to all the parents, school staff and children for coming together to make this day possible. A special mention of thanks to Eva, Sam’s mum, for decorating the hall with her colourful, hand-made balloon creations and to Susan for her vibrant flower arrangements that tied in all the colours in our hall beautifully.
