Despite the rain, our school community shone brightly on the morning of June 13th, as children, parents and staff wore a variety of colours, traditional outfits and jerseys to celebrate Queen of Angels’ annual ‘Intercultural Day’.
During a brief dry spell, our entire school community gathered in the junior yard. The children emerged from their classrooms, holding banners representing nearly 50 different nations. Children, parents and staff all stood behind the banner of their country, cheering, waving flags and playing instruments. The rain couldn’t take away from our parade!
Parents gathered in our hall for a coffee morning and a chance to taste a wide variety of delicious foods kindly prepared by our parent volunteers. The parents mingled over refreshments and admired the children’s beautiful international themed projects and artwork on display. Throughout the day, every class visited the hall to sample the delicious foods on offer. This was a fantastic learning experience for our pupils. The children surprised us with how adventurous they were! There was a cheerful atmosphere in the hall all day long.
Intercultural Day is a very special day in our school calendar. As a school community, we value the many cultures and nationalities of our pupils and it is important that every child and family can proudly showcase them in our school environment.
A big ‘thank you’ to all the parents for attending and to our staff for their help. A special mention of thanks to our parent volunteers for their time and efforts preparing and sharing their food dishes. The children love to see their parents participating in school events.
Thanks to Eva, Sam’s mum, for decorating the hall with her global themed balloon creations, Harry for arranging the hall/equipment and to Susan for her colourful flower arrangements that she prepared with the pupils. We are already looking forward to next year!
