The 3rd classes trip to The National Archaeological Museum of Ireland

What a fantastic day of fun the 3rd classes experienced in Dublin city centre recently. After alighting from the Luas we made our way to St Stephen's Park for a snack and some great fun in the playground. We then walked to the National Archeological Museum of Ireland. There we headed back in time and explored the Vikings in Ireland; the famous bog bodies; life during the Stone and Bronze Ages (where we spotted lots of beautiful lunulae which we had made in our art class); the Ancient Egyptians and finally the Treasury. How lucky were we to see the real Tara Brooch, Derrynaflan and Ardagh chalices, the Cross of Cong and the countless other treasure troves that were found in bogs and farmland down through the ages. The children were also very impressed seeing the wonderfully crafted Lurgan boat which measured 45ft long and 1m wide, making it the largest artefact on display in the museum. It was made from the bark of a huge oak tree!

We then returned to the park for our lunch and some more playground fun! How lucky were we that the sun shone all day for our trip!
