Chess Tournament
On the 21st of February a group of eight pupils from 5th and 6th class represented the school in a chess tournament run by Ficheall, a group of teachers from around the country who organise interschool chess tournaments. We travelled to Scoil Mhuire in Shankill to play against teams from five other schools. This was our first tournament and the team did us proud, not only in how they played their matches but also in how they followed ‘match etiquette’.
Though there are no official ranks given in Ficheall tournaments a report of the day showed that our team not only came fifth of twelve teams but two of them out of four in the whole tournament won five of their six matches.
An amazing day was had by all and hopefully it is just the beginning for our ever expanding chess teams.
