4th Class visited the Ombudsman for Children’s Offices

Recently the 4th class children visited the Ombudsman for Children’s Offices. This is a human rights institution that works to protect the rights of children and young people in Ireland. It promotes children’s rights and welfare by finding out what children and young people are concerned about and highlighting their opinions to people who make decisions that affect them.

Our 4th class children learned about the vision of the Ombudsman :

“We want to see an Ireland where all children and young people are actively heard and respected so that they experience safe, fulfilling and happy everyday lives.”

After a very interesting talk from Aoife Mc Namara, the pupils got to meet the Ombudsman for Children, Dr Niall Mulldoon, and they had a wonderful Q & A session with him. Next the students got to participate in a lesson based on the rights of the child. The children thoroughly enjoyed a very thought- provoking morning.
