Mr Price’s 3rd class visited the ESB Networks in Leopardstown on May 21st.
It is now a 3rd class tradition in Queen of Angels to take part in the Time to Count Programme. Time to Count aims to give valuable numeracy support to children. Over the last 8 weeks ESB staff members came into our school weekly to play maths games with our 3rd class pupils. Over the course of the programme the children formed a close relationship with their maths buddies.
The children were kindly invited to visit the ESB Networks in Leopardstown to see the workplace of their maths buddies. On arrival, the children were welcomed to the conference room. We then went outside and were shown the yellow ESB truck that is used to reach high cables and tall buildings. We learned about the importance of wearing a harness, hard hats and high vis jackets. In small groups, the children were given a tour of the control room with Darren to see how the electricity in Ireland is managed. We looked at a map of Dublin and located our school. The children completed an evaluation and enjoyed treats. Finally, every group were presented with certificates and goody bags by their proud buddies.
A big thank you to Emma and all the ESB volunteers for organising the day. We hope to welcome our volunteers back to Queen of Angels again. Thank you to Rachel from Business in the Community for facilitating the programme for our school. We look forward to participating again next year!
