2nd and 3rd classes visited The Ombudsman for Children's offices

Child Protection Programme 2021 Live Webinar Series: Ombudsman for Children's Office - National Youth Council of Ireland

Recently the children from Ms McTeague's 3rd class and Ms Butler's 2nd class visited the Ombudsman for Children’s Offices in town. This is a human rights institution that works to protect the rights of children and young people in Ireland. It promotes children’s rights and welfare by finding out what children and young people are concerned about and highlighting their opinions to people who make decisions that affect them.

The pupils were welcomed by Ger and Ali to a very cosy and inviting space. They watched a video explaining about the many rights of a child and a great discussion ensued with the pupils offering very insightful opinions.

They also learned about the vision of the Ombudsman :

“We want to see an Ireland where all children and young people are actively heard and respected so that they experience safe, fulfilling and happy everyday lives.”

Next the students got to do some worksheets based on the rights of the child. The children thoroughly enjoyed a very thought- provoking morning in the OCO offices.

The children also got to see the Spire and the historic GPO offices on O'Connell Street and even waved to our much loved liberator, Daniel O'Connell. The children passed Trinity College and got to admire the Christmas lights and BTs windows.

The children loved the hour of fun in the playground in St Stephen's Green to end such a great day!
