Time to Read Children from 2nd class visit ESB Networks in Leopardstown
We in Queen of Angels are so delighted to take part in the Time to Read Programme every year. This programme, sponsored by ESB, was set up to give valuable reading support to children in 2nd class. ESB workers come into our school every Wednesday morning to read with 12 chosen pupils. Over the course of the year the children form a very close relationship with their tutors and similarly the tutors gain so much from working with these young, eager, students.
As part of the programme the children recently visited the workplace of their volunteers at ESB Networks in Leopardstown. Firstly, they were given a tour of the nerve- centre of the building with Mark, who showed them where the electricity comes from in their area. Afterwards, they were treated to a lovely breakfast in the canteen. Outside they were shown the big ESB vans and even got a chance to “drive” the vehicles. They returned inside to make their very own Doodlebots with the help of their volunteers. Very content, happy children returned to school after their magnificent day with a bagful of goodies! A big thank you to Mary, Helen and Mark for organising the day.
