Activites to try at home with your mum and dad

I hope you have all been working on the activities I suggested in the homework pack I gave you a few weeks ago.

Here are some more reading and writing games to try.

Enjoy!

Letter work

  1. Bounce it

Bounce a ball onto letters on the wall or on the floor say the letter name.

Stick the letters on the wall with blue tac or Velcro on the carpet.

  1. Magnetic letters race

Sort all the magnetic letters that are the same, whoever sorts the letters fastest wins

Remember only 4 letter names at a time e.g. Aaaaa , MmmmM, Bbbbb,Yyyyyy,

Try to have a letter sort race with 4 different letters every day.

  1. Letter and sentence formation practice.

Writing letters /words /sentences using shaving foam or a wet paint brush and water on a black board, or on the footpath. Or try writing with chalk on the footpath in your garden.

Reading and word work.

  1. Read aloud every day.
  2. Flashlight fun game

Turn off the lights; use a flashlight to read the words you know.

  1. Erase it game

Write words you know on a chalk board or on a white board, taking turns : if you can read the word you can erase it. The winner erases the most words.

  1. Snap game.

Two sets of identical words (just written on paper is ok) and match the words. If more than two people are playing, make extra sets of words.

Writing ideas

  1. Write a new last page for your favourite story ( you can write more than one page if you like). Now you are an author too!
  2. Talk about and then write a story about the things your teddy likes to do.

Write about teddy's favourite games, favourite cartoon , favourite food ,fun things teddy likes to do, silly things teddy likes to do, a day when teddy was very kind or a day when teddy was very naughty .

  1. Make a book about teddy now that you are an author. Don't forget to illustrate your stories.
  2. Cut up story.

Write your own sentence, ask your mum or dad to cut up the sentence, now you have to put the sentence back together again by yourself.

Challenge

How many words can you write correctly by yourself in five minutes?

Try the challenge every day.

Remember to ask mum or dad to check your words every day.

I can't wait to read your stories!
