Ms. Hickey’s 6th class took part in the ESB Science Blast showcase in the RDS. This is fun-filled, interactive way to engage your entire class with STEM skills. In this showcase event, our class was paired with an amazing STEM expert, who talked to us about our investigation and gave us feedback. To link in with the amazing work being done by our Green Schools Committee, we decided to choose a question linking to Biodiversity. 6th class came up with the question ‘What colour and type of material are birds most attracted to?’. The children discussed their predictions and formulated their experiment. They created bird feeders made of metal, cardboard and plastic, in blue, red and yellow. Through observations, note taking and photographs the students gathered their results. They used devices in school to carry out research and to present their results. Our expert was blown away with the level of work and the standard of our investigation. We had an excellent day out!
