Diwali Celebrations 2020

We had a fun-filled day last Friday celebrating the wonderful Festival of Light. Lots of teachers and SNAs hung lights in their classrooms as Diwali symbolises the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance. Children designed Rangolis and they learned about the story of Sita and Rama. Our Indian children came dressed in their traditional costumes all looking so beautiful. Lavishka from 3rd class spoke to her class about it :

Diwali is one of India's biggest festivals. The word Deepawali means rows of lighted lamps. It is a festival of lights and Indian Hindus celebrate it with joy. During Diwali people light up their houses and shops with diyas ( clay lamps ).

On this auspicious occasion, Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped by Hindus. This festival brings wealth, prosperity and success to all. People also buy new clothes and look forward to exchanging gifts with their family, friends and relatives.
