Amber Flag

We are excited to announce that Queen of Angels Primary School are embarking on a new adventure. Following on from the success of our Active Schools Initiatives, we have decided to take on the challenge of obtaining the Amber Flag in order to promote positive mental health and wellbeing in our school community.

What is the Amber Flag?

The Amber Flag Initiative is an initiative run by Pieta House which recognises the individual efforts of primary and secondary schools, youthreach, third level institutions, community groups and clubs to create healthy, inclusive environments that support mental wellbeing.

Successful completion of the Amber Flag initiative involves the whole school community coming together in order to create a safe, positive and healthy attitude towards our general physical and mental health and wellbeing. Queen of Angels has been promoting positive mental and physical health through a variety of events and activities over the past few years, some of which are listed below:

· Breakfast Assemblies

· Nurture Room

· Active Schools

· Meditation

· Positive-Tree

· Amber Flag Noticeboard

· Holistic activities undertaken through the SPHE and PE strands of the curriculum

· Happy Joe Wellness Classes

· Yoga with Sue

· Outdoor Garden

· Feel Good Fridays

· Friendship Week

· Coffee Mornings

· Mindful Monitors

Keep an eye on our website and our school newsletter for more updates on all of the exciting events and initiatives we have planned over the coming weeks!

What are our aims and objectives?

As a school, we aim to:

· Raise an awareness of Positive Mental Health by creating an Amber Flag notice board in the school.

· Hold fundraising events for Pieta House.

· Introduce one Wellbeing day a month which will include daily activities to promote positive mental health in our school.

· Create a mentoring program between the Senior and Junior classes.

We would welcome any parents or guardians who are willing to share their skills and talents with us in terms of creative art, music, meditation, mindfulness, fitness, healthy eating, etc., just let one of our teachers know at the beginning or end of the day. We would appreciate the knowledge and skills that you all have which may help us create a positive mental health and wellbeing environment here at Queen of Angels Primary School.
