Hello everyone,

I hope you are all well and are getting to enjoy some of the nice weather we are having. I was so happy to see the beautiful work you have been sending me and to hear how you are getting on. Keep up the great work first class. You are all amazing!!

I have a list of work for you to try for the next two weeks. I have also updated the Padlet with some new resources and games. I hope that you are enjoying these too. Remember don’t feel under any pressure to complete everything. Just do what you can.

List of Work for 2 Weeks: 5th- 15th May

English:

  • Comprehensions: Complete 2 comprehension sheets and answer question in your comprehension copy. If you are finished the ones I sent home there are more comprehension sheets on the Padlet.

  • Spellings: Learn all the spellings in list 28 & 29 and complete all activities in these units. You could try and test yourself at the back of the book.

  • Phonics: Sounds Like Phonics (Activity book C). Complete Unit 1 The Aquarium (Double Consonants ll, ff, ss, zzand Hard and soft c and g section). Link on Padlet.

  • Handwriting: Continue the next 5 pages of your handwriting book. If you have finished your big book you can continue with your small handwriting book. If you are finished both books try copying words and sentences into your learn to write copy. Make sure to start letters on the correct lines.

  • Writing:Please write your news into your copy once a week. There are lots of things you can write about for your news. Try writing about the weather, the activities you are doing at home or about all the video calls you are making to your family and friends!

  • Story Writing: Have a go at writing stories. There is a template for story writing on the Padlet. Use the headings who?, where?, what was the problem? How was it solved? Ending? to tell your story. There are pictures there to help you with ideas for stories or feel free to just write you own. Don’t forget to email me the pictures so I can see how you are getting on. You can write these in your English copy or print the sheet from the Padlet.

  • Reading: Read online graded readers (oxfordowl.co.uk - link on Padlet). Keep listening to stories also.

  • Oral Language:Rainbow Oral Language Programme – Unit 13 Aesop’s Fables. Look at the interactive poster. Play the interactive vocabulary games. Read some more of Aesop’s Fables –The Boy Who Cried Wolf, The Fox and The Crow, The Lion and The Mouse.

    • Discuss the meaning of the following proverbs:

      • A stitch in time saves nine

      • A watched pot never boils

      • Far away hills are greener

      • Don’t count your chickens before they are hatched

      • Don’t put all your eggs in one basket

      • Better late than never

      • The early bird catches the worms

  • Sight Words: Read Dolch words (List 1 & 2 – uploaded on Padlet).

  • Challenge: Try putting the words into sentences and write them in your copy. Can you spell these words? Try spelling them using the look, say, cover, write and check method.

Irish:

  • Bua na Cainte: An Teilifis page 67 – 75.

    • See Padlet for link on how to download the Bua na Cainte programme so children can play the games, sing the songs and learn poems too!

    • They are welcome to revise all previous chapters also

Maths:

  • Weight: Pages 123, 124 Busy at Maths. You can skip the questions that you need to use a scales for if you don’t have one.

    • Find things at home that weight 1kg,

    • sort items at home into categories- less than 1kg, around 1kg, more than 1kg

    • pick three objects at home and order them lightest to heaviest

    • CJ Fallon online activities 121A, 122A, 123A, and 124A

  • Extending and using pattern: Pages 125 -127 Busy at Maths.

    • Count to 100

    • read and write and order numbers 1-100

    • Counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s

    • CJ Fallon online activities 125A, 126A, 127A

  • The Hundred Square: Pages 128 129 Busy at Maths.

    • Challenge - fill in a blank 100 square (Template on Padlet).

    • Get a family member to cover numbers on the 100 square, what numbers are they covering?

  • Oral Work: Continue to revise skip counting. Counting in 2’s, 3’s, 4’s, 5’s and 10’s to 50. Challenge – See how far you can count up to using skip counting.

  • Revision: Money– Can you count coins up to 20 cent. Can you find different ways of making 20 cent using coins? Challenge – try writing the sums in your copy.

  • Maths games:Play some Maths games. There are Maths games listed on the Padlet.

SESE:

Science:

  • Small World: Page 78, 79 (Magnets).

  • Challenge: Do you have magnets at home on your fridge? Can you explore what other surfaces the magnets stick to? Can you bring a paper clip for a walk using your magnet?

Geography:

  • Small World: Page 64, 65 (Mexico)

  • Challenge: Can you write 3 more facts in your SESE project copy that you have learned about Mexico. Can you find Mexico on a map?

History:

  • Small World: Page 82, 83 (The Life of My Grandparents). You could phone one of your grandparents and ask them about life when they were young. What games did they like to play? What was school like?

  • Challenge: Can you write three more questions that you would ask your grandparents? Write them in your SESE project copy.

Art:

  • Flower Art – There are lots of flowers blooming in the month of May. Try painting/drawing or making flowers. Ideas on the Padlet.

  • Travel – Make your own rocket or aeroplane -see padlet for ideas

Music:

  • Song Singing – Links on the Padlet to the song ‘Happy’ and ‘Moving to the Music. Learn the words and sing along.

PE:

  • To keep fit and healthy while we are all at home try to exercise at least once a day. There are lots of things you could try like movement and guided dance on gonoodle or follow PE lessons online (e.g. links to PE with Joe on the Padlet.). You could also play games in your garden, cycle your bike and add in some movement breaks between each school work activity.

Extra Work Ideas:

  • I have made a Padlet for you with links to extra work, resources and ideas. I have also added a link to Ms. Butler’s & Ms. Byrne’s 1st class padlet for even more ideas of things to do! Don’t worry if you want to complete a worksheet from the padlet and don’t have a printer. You can write the work into your own copy.
