Time to Count 2024
Ms Archer’s 3rd class visited the ESB Networks in Leopardstown on Friday May 31st.
We in Queen of Angels are so delighted to take part in the Time to Count Programme every year. This programme was set up to give valuable numeracy support to children. ESB workers came into our school weekly to play maths games with our 3rd class pupils. Over the course of the programme the children formed a very close relationship with their tutors.
As part of the programme, the children were kindly invited to visit the ESB Networks in Leopardstown. On arrival, the children were treated to drinks, chocolate and sweets. The children were given a tour of the control room with Darren to see how the electricity in Ireland is managed. The children each had a turn to sit at a computer with a map of Ireland and select ‘Sandyford’. This showed us where we get electricity for our school! Outside, they were shown the big yellow ESB trucks and jeeps and even got a chance to “drive” the vehicles. We were shown all the equipment the engineers use. Lastly, the children were presented with certificates by their proud tutors.
Very happy children returned to school after their magnificent tour with a bagful of goodies! A big thank you to Emma and all the ESB volunteers for organising the day. We hope to welcome our volunteers back to Queen of Angels again. Thank you also to Rachel from Business in the Community for facilitating the programme for our school. We look forward to participating again next year.
