Recently the two 6th classes visited the Ombudsman for Children’s Offices in town. This is a human rights institution that works to protect the rights of children and young people in Ireland. It promotes children’s rights and welfare by finding out what children and young people are concerned about and highlighting their opinions to people who make decisions that affect them.
The pupils were welcomed by Timmy to a very cosy and inviting space who talked to them about childrens rights
They also learned about the Strategic Plan for the OCO for 2022-2024 :
“We want to see an Ireland where all children and young people are actively heard and respected so that they experience safe, fulfilling and happy everyday lives.”
Next the students got to do some worksheets based on the rights of the child. The children thoroughly enjoyed a very thought- provoking morning in the OCO offices.
Our trip into town would not be complete without a visit to one of the city centre parks! All the children had great fun in St Stephen's park.
