Today, the fourth class began their gardening activities with the guidance of one of the best gardeners we know, Susan Durrad.
Susan kindly worked with six students from the class—Ayden, Nasr, Johan, Eden, and Zack—on a beautiful, sunny day in our herb garden. The boys had the opportunity to pick rosemary, lemon balm, and sage.
They also harvested some rhubarb, which Susan took home, planning to make a delicious rhubarb crumble.
While exploring the garden, they came across a plant called Lamb’s Ear, a herbaceous perennial known for its soft, fuzzy, silver-green leaves and violet summer flowers. This plant is often appreciated for its calming texture, which can bring a sense of relaxation.
The children thoroughly enjoyed deadheading the old daffodils, turning the soil, and transporting their gathered materials to the compost bins using the wheelbarrow.
Overall, it was a fantastic day filled with hands-on learning, and the students gained so much knowledge from Susan and her expertise as a skilled gardener.
Susan is very kindly coming back next week to work with more children in the school.
