On Tuesday, Fifth Class enjoyed a wonderful educational trip to Ballyogan Library, accompanied by Mr. Connaire and Kathy.
Upon arrival, the class was warmly welcomed by Mairead, who introduced the group to the library’s beautiful event space. There, the children had the pleasure of meeting author Shane Keating, best known for his popular Boot series.
Shane spoke engagingly about his work as an author and shared many fascinating insights into the writing process. He explained that his ideas often come from watching his own children play, as well as from the different countries he has visited over the years. These experiences help him to imagine new adventures and bring his stories and characters to life.
His books have been translated into 20 different languages, and one of his works has also been produced in Braille. Shane explained that learning to read Braille can take over a year to master, and the pupils were intrigued by how much dedication goes into making books accessible to everyone.
The author encouraged the children to use their imaginations and think creatively about the kinds of stories they might write themselves. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the interactive session and were inspired by Shane’s enthusiasm and storytelling.
After the visit, the class stopped at the playground for some well-deserved fun before taking the Luas back to school. It was a fun-filled and inspiring afternoon, and the children are now looking forward to writing essays about their memorable day and their meeting with the talented author, Shane Hegarty.
