The pupils in 4th class received a very exciting treat today when they got a surprise lesson on the amazing lives of bugs and reptiles from Dr John Dunbar in St Tiernan's College this morning. Dr Dunbar is a past pupil of Queen of Angels and he provided a highly engaging workshop by bringing in a wide range of live bugs and reptiles which are normally found in jungles, swamps and deserts, into the lecture hall in St Tiernan's. He taught them about venom and how animals use it to compete within their ecosystem. The boys and girls got to pet some very weird and wonderful creatures throughout his talk: the Madagascar hissing cockroach, the Malayan jungle nymph, a very hairy female tarantula and a large millipede. But the one creature that brought the biggest gasps from the 4th class was when John brought out a large python from its resting box. The children loved when they got permission to gently pet and interact with this very large, cool reptile! Please enjoy the photos attached.
A big thank you to St Tiernan's College for inviting us to such an informative workshop and also to Mr Curry, Peter Lennon and Ms Downes for organising this great morning!
