Science - Building Bridges in 4th Class

Our theme for September was rivers. We, in 4th class, learned about their formation, through erosion and deposition, and how people use rivers for food, trade and transport. We also explored famous bridges of the world and examined how the structure and design of these bridges has changed over time.

In these unusual times we are living in, it can be hard to make lessons as interactive as they used to be, but we didn’t let that stop us!

We took advantage of the good weather and brought all the children outside. We set both 4th classes the challenge of using the information they had gathered to build their own weight bearing bridge, using only spaghetti and marshmallows.

They worked in their pods to create a bridge structure between 2 chairs that could support a copy, or if we were really lucky, an English book. The children had a ball and came up with some really imaginative ideas to enhance the strength and design of their creations.
