Celebrating Eid

Celebrating Eid

Today the children in Queen of Angels got to celebrate Eid. Eid literally means a "festival" or "feast" in Arabic. Eid al-Fitr, which means "the feast of breaking the fast", is the name of this festival which begins tomorrow. It is known as the "Lesser" or "Smaller Eid" as it only last 3 days. Lots of our Muslim pupils have been fasting for 30 days during Ramadan which means they were unable to eat or drink during daylight hours. How amazing are they!

There was a great atmosphere in the school from early morning as our Muslim children arrived beautifully dressed in their fancy clothes and some of the girls had their hands expertly painted with henna designs. Some children came with gifts for their class mates while others brought in traditional sweet desserts.

Many photos were taken and the children got to take part in our Eid parade in the junior yard. The other children clapped and waved as they passed by and shouted "Happy Eid" and "Eid Mubarak" (which means "Have a blessed Eid"). The school gave out pastries as a treat to all the pupils in each class!

A truly wonderful day was had by all!
